Humans: See? They NEED to be sheared!

False rape accusations are an anomaly.

True rape accusations are a norm.

You’re, quite literally, more likely to be killed by a comet than falsely accused of rape.

Re-blog now, read later.

"Because 1 in 33 men will be raped in his lifetime, men are 82,000x more likely to be raped than falsely accused of rape. It seems many of us would do well to pay more attention to how rape culture affects us all than be paranoid about false accusers.”

Animal welfare is the biggest bullshit ever.
Animal rights is the way to go.
No ‘bigger cages’, no ‘free range’ or ‘organic’. It’s all part of the same exploitative system.
Animals are not products.
Animals have a right to live.
Animals are not ours to use or buy.

I was going to type something longer but it was inexplicably deleted, so I’ll just recap:
Animals that have ALREADY BEEN BRED by humans are too dependent on them to live in the wild, so setting them free is not a good idea.
Humans are scientifically proven to be omnivorous. Illnesses are more closely related to the overconsumption of ANY FOOD, not just meat.
The farming of vegan foods ALSO harm the enviroment. Deforestation and habitant destruction is employed to make room for crops, and it is actually worse because, on top of destroying trees, it endangers the animals living in said habitat.
That’s why I don’t think veganism and animal rights are going to save the enviroment exclusively. In fact, they can be just as bad.

…You totally ignored what I wrote in response to you earlier and removed it from this text post?

elceetheporcupine, I clearly don’t know you at all, but I would assume that you, like most people, are an okay person. I doubt you go out of your way to kick dogs or harass strangers and you’re probably really nice to your grandparents or sometimes donate money to charities. And like most people, I doubt that if you had the choice to either participate in something violent or to cause less harm, that you would choose to participate in the violence. With that all in mind, I ask that you please take seriously what I’m about to write. I really appreciate that you have decided to engage on this issue and that we can have this conversation.

***

The world isn’t going to go vegan overnight, there will be a steady decline in the number of animals being bred each year, which we’re already seeing, until animals are no longer bred for human consumption.

Though if the world did go vegan overnight and we had to figure out what to do with all the farmed animals already in existence, that would be a fucking amazing problem to have!

Please don’t feign concern for these animals who you fund the forced breeding, miserable lives, and earlier deaths of. No one is causing them this suffering because they care about them and it is the oldest trick in the book for the oppressor to claim they are oppressing the oppressed for “their own good.”

Again, we do not have a biological need to eat other animals or the things that come out of them. We know that we are healthier and that our planet is healthier if we choose plant-based foods over animal-based ones. Who says?

The World Health Organization

The Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

The new president of the American College of Cardiology

The American Dietetic Association

I could go on.

If we know that we can be perfectly healthy—and lower our risk of many leading diseases—by not harming other animals, to not do so is to choose violence.

Your environmental argument falls apart because the majority of crops in the world are actually grown to feed farmed animals. Animal ag uses 30% of the Earth’s land mass and has resulted in the clearing of 260 million acres of U.S. forest. So if we are worried about the impact of crops on the planet, we can dramatically minimize that impact by not farming the animals who eat the crops.

Regardless, growing crops for food does not cause nearly the harm that animal agriculture causes—

Growing crops doesn’t contribute to 51% of greenhouse gases. Animal ag does.
Growing crops it doesn’t use 1/3 of all raw materials and 1/3 of all fossil fuels worldwide. Animal ag does.
Growing crops it isn’t the world’s leading driver of deforestation, the number one cause of water scarcity, and isn’t directly linked 70% of all human illnesses. Animal ag is.

Yes, veganism does not solve all the problems in the world, as no one thing can. But it solves a hell of a lot with one easy switch. If you consider yourself a rational person, if you consider yourself a person who doesn’t want to cause harm to your own body, other individuals, or the earth… then please consider veganism.

DANG. That’ll get the message across. The movement is gaining momentum!

if tumblr is worth a crap this will get a million notes±

Considering the conversations I have here about it, Tumblr is worth nothing, given those parameters. The only way this shit will get over 10k is a bunch of fucking whiners crying about their right to kill animals and destroy the environment because they don’t go to SeaWorld, drive a hybrid, and recycle.

Just to be clear…

Eating animals and the things that come out of them is species-based violence.

Eating farmed animals and the things that come out of them is gender-based violence.

Eating farmed animals and the things that come out of them is reproductive violence.

Veganism is a concrete and impactful way to take a stand against identity-based violence and the exploitation of other individuals’ reproductive systems.

Well, then. What do expect us to do?

There are animals that literally have a really strong co dependency on humans. They’ve grown up their entire lives with humans. Their lives revolve around humans. We can’t just set them free because they have NO IDEA what they are supposed to do with their lives now that there are no humans to take care of them.
We humans are predatory animals, that’s a fact. However, we are a species that posses enough intellect to wonder the purpose of our predatory actions. Do we HAVE to eat meat? Do we HAVE to drink milk? Do we HAVE to harm another species for our own benefit? Yes, actually. We posses the intellect to realize it doesn’t feel right, but we do it anyways because exploiting animals is what helped our species survive for thousands of years, just like any other predator. I know it sounds selfish, but like any other species, we need to preserve ourselves.
So I’ll ask again: ideally, animals shouldn’t have to be exploited, but what can we do about it? What kind of solution do you propose that doesn’t have grim consecuences for both animals and humans alike?
Welfare is not bullshit. Sometimes, that’s the only option.

The reason ~150 billion nonhuman animals come into existence each year is because humans are breeding them, often through artificial insemination. If more people stop paying for this (and the accompanying annual killing of these ~150 billion individuals) then less will be bred and less will be killed. Though in my opinion, just “setting them free” would be better than these individuals continuing to live their entire lives in the conditions they currently live in.

We do not have a biological need to eat other animals or the things that come out of them. In fact, we know that many of the leading causes of human illness—diabetes, cancers, heart disease—are closely associated with such consumption. So if we are able to make the choice as to whether or not we consume animals and their secretions, it’s actually in our own best interest to choose not to consume them. Likewise, we know that the farming of other animals for human consumption is the leading cause of environmental destruction, polluting tens of thousands of rivers, contributing to 51% of green house gases, and standing as the primary causes of deforestation. So, again, we’re destroying our own home (Earth) and our own health by breeding and killing billions of other animals. If we have a choice, animal rights and veganism is the option.
